2022 Grand Wagoneer vs Lincoln Navigator

When you're on the hunt for the perfect premium SUV, it's important to keep a multitude of factors in mind. The ideal SUV will fit seamlessly into your lifestyle, offering a spacious interior to carry both passengers and cargo for your next roadtrip or getaway. It should also have a wealth of safety features, cutting-edge technology, and the luxurious materials that set these premium vehicles apart from the competition. So, how does one find the right SUV within this highly competitive market? To help find the answer, we'll be comparing the 2022 Grand Wagoneer up against the 2021 Lincoln Navigator. The Grand Wagoneer is a brand-new SUV that's already making waves in the SUV market, while the Navigator has a longer legacy behind it. Which SUV will come out on top? Keep reading to find out!

2022 Grand Wagoneer Power & Handling

For its 2022 debut, the Grand Wagoneer features a lineup of four different trim levels, and one powertrain that remains consistent across the board for each one. This powertrain consists of a muscular 6.4-lier V8 engine rated at 471 horsepower an 455 lb-ft of torque mated to a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Notably, the Grand Wagoneer provides standard 4-wheel drive on each and every one of its models, featuring the Quadra-Drive II 4X4 system which automatically directs torque to whichever wheels need it most, depending on the conditions. There's also an available Heavy Duty Trailer Tow package, which aids the Grand Wagoneer in reaching its maximum towing capacity of 9,850 pounds. Plus, the Grand Wagoneer also comes equipped with Quadra-Lift Air Suspension and Selec-Terrain Traction Management, both of which make it athletic enough to take on off-road adventures, including up to 24 inches of water fording.

2021 Lincoln Navigator Power & Handling

Like the 2022 Grand Wagoneer, the 2021 Lincoln Navigator also uses one single powertrain for all three of its trim levels. This powertrain features a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 which supplies the Navigator with 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive as the standard drivetrain. 4-wheel drive is an available option for all trim levels, with the exception of the highest trim level, the Black Label, which provides standard 4-wheel drive. Also like the Grand Wagoneer, the Navigator offers an available Trailer Tow Package, but its maximum capacity tops out at just 8,700 pounds, a figure which trails behind that of the Grand Wagoneer by over a thousand pounds. The size is also a factor when it comes to the Lincoln Navigator, as its large and boxy frame can make tight corners or busy city streets a bit difficult to maneuver around.

2022 Grand Wagoneer Features & Design

The Grand Wagoneer's design evokes luxury and classic Americana, both inside and out. It features available 22-inch polished wheels, acoustic laminated glass for the windshield, and premium color-tinted windows. The interior features standard Nappa leather, with quilted Palermo leather on upper trim levels. Plus, every trim level comes standard with a massive 12-inch touchscreen for the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, with wireless smartphone integration, wireless smartphone charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. There's also a front-passenger display standard on the upper two trim levels, available rear entertainment displays, and an industry-exclusive 23-speaker sound system from McIntosh. The Grand Wagoneer has over 120 available safety features, with standard features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and active lane management.

2021 Lincoln Navigator Features & Design

As we mentioned above, the Navigator has a large and imposing presence, with a somewhat boxy frame. It features available 22-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, and a hands-free power liftgate on the exterior, with adaptive suspension to cushion the ride. On the inside, the Navigator features a three-row seating configuration upholstered in faux-leather upholstery on the base trim, and leather on only the first two rows on the mid-tier Reserve trim. The Black Label provides real leather for all three rows, as well as additional features that up the overall luxury quotient such as massaging front seats, a Head-Up Display, and a Revel Ultima sound system. You'll also find ambient interior cabin lighting, heated seats in the first two rows, and heated and ventilated front seats. The Navigator has safety features like adaptive cruise control and parking assistance, but unfortunately those features are not included in the standard safety package.

Conclusion:

While perhaps these two SUVs may seem similar on the surface, once we begin to dig into the details, the choice becomes clear. Only the Grand Wagoneer offers the stunning array of standard features, robust safety package, and outstanding power and capability to suit whatever challenge life throws at it.
