2023 Jeep Compass Plymouth MI

The most exciting upgrade for the 2023 Jeep Compass is what's under the hood. Replacing the previous 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine is a new 2.0L turbocharged I-4. This bumps the Compass's power numbers up to 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. That's an upgrade of 23 horsepower and 46 lb-ft of torque compared to the previous naturally-aspirated engine. Paired with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission, the turbocharged engine uses Engine Start-Slot (ESS) technology, increasing fuel economy by shutting down the engine while the vehicle is at idle, leaving the electronics on, then rebooting the engine when the brake pedal is released. The twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger is mounted directly to the engine's cylinder head and uses an electric actuated wastegate to provide exciting performance and impressive torque response even while driving off-road.

While Active Drive 4x4 was only standard on higher Compass trim levels in previous model years, it comes standard across the entire 2023 Compass lineup. Active Drive is an on-demand 4x4 system that intelligently detects and reacts to changes in road conditions to counteract a loss of traction. Using a disconnecting rear axle and power transfer unit, the Active Drive system will curb a loss of traction by automatically engaging the rear wheels to provide four-wheel-drive traction. This happens instantaneously without any driver input. However, the Selec-Terrain traction management system allows drivers to control the 4x4 system with Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand/Mud drive modes. The Trailhawk uses Active Drive Low 4x4. This acts similarly to the Active Drive system. However, its transfer case has a low-range gearing to better handle low-speed crawling control. Additionally, the Trailhawk's Selec-Terrain system gains Rock mode.

The 2023 Jeep Compass rolls off the line with a wide array of standard safety features and driver assistance technologies. Standard across the entire 2023 Compass lineup are driver aids like active lane management, advanced brake assist, forward collision warning, blindspot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, tire-specific TPMS, and an electronic switch-activated parking brake. Drowsy driver detection is now standard for the Compass, using sensors to detect changes in lane position, speed, and steering input that is consistent with the behaviors of a weary driver. If these factors are detected, the Compass will use audio and visual alerts to suggest pulling over. Optional safety features and ones that come standard with the higher trim levels include parallel/perpendicular park assist, a surround-view camera, front/rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, Highway Assist (a semi-autonomous driving system), and adaptive cruise control with stop and go.
