Ram 1500 RHO Power in Numbers
Power-wise, the all-new RHO competes best with the outgoing 5.7L V8 engine, which provides 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. For the 2025 model year, however, Ram has discontinued its V8 engines in their pursuit of better fuel efficiency, and so came the Hurricane engine. The all-new Hurricane engine is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. While it comes in a standard-output variant with 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque, the RHO comes standard with the high-output variant, which rips out an exciting 540 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. While providing a significant increase in power from the V8 engine mentioned above. The Ram 1500 RHO matches the top speed of the outgoing performance model at 118 MPH and only increases the 0-60 time by one-tenth of a second, bringing it to 4.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the RHO can cover a quarter mile in just 13.1 seconds. This is thanks to a 150-pound reduction in weight compared to the brand's previous performance truck, with a lighter powertrain. The new Hurricane engine uses a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters to deliver power to an advanced 4x4 system.
What are the Nine 2025 Ram 1500 RHO Drive Modes?
To take all-terrain capability to a new level, Ram gave the Ram 1500 RHO a whopping nine drive modes! These include Auto, Custom, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, Tow, Rock, and Baja, plus a Valet mode to default vehicle settings. By offering a series of drive modes, the Ram 1500 RHO can automatically make alterations to various vehicle systems to best take on the selected driving surface. The system defaults to Auto mode, which automatically detects the driving conditions and makes the demanded adjustments on the fly. Meanwhile, when you select Custom, you can manually select the suspension stiffness, torque distribution, steering feel, and other critical operations. In Sport mode, performance reigns supreme, so the powertrain is set to provide maximum power output, raise transmission shift points to allow for higher RPMs, and optimize the throttle response time for heart-pounding excitement behind the wheel. Mud/Sand and Snow modes operate very similarly, as they prioritize traction when driving on slick terrains by optimizing the rear differential and torque split. In Tow mode, the drivetrain is optimized for hauling cargo, making alterations to the torque split and transmission shift points, and shifting the transfer case into 4-LO. In Rock mode, the shock absorbers are softened to allow for greater suspension travel, and the transfer case is shifted into 4-LO to help easily pass over steep, rocky terrain while remaining in control. Finally, Baja mode shifts the transfer case into 4-HI and optimizes power output and torque split to provide optimal traction while throwing sand around on desert dunes.
What Gives the Ram 1500 RHO its Off-Road Chops?
Much of the Ram 1500 RHO's off-road capability comes from its custom-manufactured and class-exclusive Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shock absorbers. These provide the RHO with mind-boggling suspension travel of 14 inches in the rear and 13 inches in the front. This helps get the truck over just about any terrain you can throw at it, no matter how steep or uneven. The Bilstein shock absorbers use adaptive damping to react to changes in the terrain to continuously provide a smooth ride. Meanwhile, with Ram's Active Terrain Dynamics technology, the shock absorbers actively work to improve handling and body roll control by adjusting the stiffness of the shocks based on the road or trail conditions. The Active Terrain Dynamics system is what the drive modes use to adjust the suspension when a mode is selected. In addition to the shock absorbers, the Ram 1500 RHO towers over the Core Ram 1500 lineup with 11.8 inches of ground clearance with 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires that aid in both ground clearance and traction with deep, knobby treads. The RHO's four-wheel drive system uses a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case for optimal torque distribution on any terrain. Finally, Ram used a Dana 60 full-floating rear axle with an electronic locking rear differential for unrivaled traction.
